Lisa Zbinden - Solo Show:
For Lisa Zbinden, mica is a very fascinating rock and, while working with it, she realized that it showed her some enormously interesting aspects to the extent where she decided to create a body of work for an exhibition. Lisa Zbinden's new series, “Mica Studies” opens Friday, March 20th at Brushfire Gallery and contains approximately 30 paintings, one installation, paper and different sculptures.
Born in 1962 near Basel, Switzerland Zbinden grew up on an orchard farm discovering her passion for colors and art at a young age. At 32 she started taking lessons with the artist and art therapist Madelon de Maa. In 2002, along with her husband and their 3 children, Lisa moved to BC where she met many different artistic and talented people including the artist Max Eliott with whom she learned the mixed media technique that viewers will see at "Mica Studies", Zbinden's first Jasper solo show.
Lisa Zbinden began to expose her work at Brushfire Gallery in the summer of 2008 and later that year attended Tony Onley’s Artist Program in Wells, BC.
"I am focused on what already exists: in the Beauty of God’s Creation. My passion is to see it and to translate it into a different form and colour.
I try to show the original message of matter – its texture, patterns and forms. The simplicity and collaboration of components that create one perfect form, such as a wasp nest or a rosebud always fascinated me – and there is still a lot for me to discover!" - Lisa Zbinden
